OMNII is a community centre in Den Bosch. Here, we create and offer space for community spirit, rooted in justice and solidarity. We support and connect initiatives that improve health, consciousness and participation. By sharing space, knowledge and other resources we actively change the narrative of what society can be.

WHY?

Every day we’re being confronted with rising tensions. Promises of our society are unfolding differently as expected. More and more it becomes clear that our collective path is not sustainable and we need a different story.

That’s why more and more initiatives are emerging, focused on wellbeing, sustainability, restoration and connection. While this increase in initiatives is hopeful, it’s also important to reflect on what the reason for this high demand is. One of the main reasons is that we’ve been slowly losing access to the things we need and we looked away when it happened elsewhere. In the West we’ve developed a worldview that if something is of value, it belongs on the marketplace. This process is called commodification. Many of the things we once shared freely have been turned, or are being turned, into products/services to be sold and bought.

At the same time these consumer relationships has turned collective challenges into individual consumer responsibility.

We’re not just losing access to quality healthcare, housing, food and education, we’re also losing access to things that are harder to measure: peace of mind, trust, nature, community, and meaning. Where we used to feel connected to our neighborhoods, our surroundings, and ourselves, that sense of belonging is now often replaced by paid services and commercial solutions. While we remain fundamentally connected to all things, the experience of connection and belonging is increasingly something that’s being sold back to us. While it was already ours to begin with.

WHAT?

OMNII was created to offer an alternative. A place where people can take back agency and work together to create what’s needed for their own wellbeing, in connection with the wellbeing of others.

Physical, mental, and social.

A place where we help each other grow and take shared responsibility. Not in direct opposition to the old, but in service of something new.

We believe this future can only be built if we bring together different people and perspectives. Each with their own story, but often with the same core desires: for safety, recognition, connection, and meaning. When we bring these stories together, we begin to see through the illusion of separation and scarcity and remember how much we truly have (in common).

OMNII isn’t a fixed project, it’s part of a global movement working towards just societies, which everyone can join. Through OMNII you can become a donor, contribute as a community worker, partner with your own initiative or organization, or simply drop by. Whatever you bring will strengthen the whole and in some way, it will always find its way back to you. That’s the power of community.
